KeepCool measures its environmental impact for the first time with Devera and validates its potential to reduce emissions

Key takeaways

KeepCool reduces fruit transport waste by 42% thanks to its passive solution.

  • This translates into a 2.5% reduction in carbon footprint per kilogram of transported product.

  • Devera’s analysis was conducted using oranges, but the results are applicable to all fresh produce transported with KeepCool.

  • The partnership between KeepCool and Devera strengthens a shared commitment to data-driven sustainability.

  • The transport phase shows the greatest potential for environmental improvement thanks to this technology.

Sometimes, the most powerful technology is not the most complex, but the smartest. KeepCool proves this with a passive solution that preserves fruits and vegetables during transport, drastically reducing waste. At Devera, we share their vision: to reduce the environmental impact of products through rigorous, traceable, and actionable data. That’s why our collaboration went beyond a simple analysis—it was a natural synergy between two companies aligned in purpose.

A concrete use case to demonstrate a global impact

To quantify the environmental value of KeepCool's technology, Devera conducted a life cycle analysis (LCA) comparing two orange transport scenarios: one traditional, and one using KeepCool’s system. Oranges were the starting point, but the key takeaway is that this approach is applicable to any fruit, vegetable, or fresh product transported with KeepCool solutions.

The goal was to understand how much carbon footprint can be avoided by reducing waste during long trips. The answer is clear: 42% less product wasted results in a 2.55% lower carbon footprint per kilo of edible product reaching the consumer.

Data that validates what logic already suggested

With KeepCool, less fruit is lost during transport. This means less fruit grown, less packaging, less energy used and therefore, fewer emissions throughout all life cycle stages. The greatest benefit is in transport, where up to 0.019 kg of CO₂ per kilogram of product can be avoided thanks to better preservation.

This may seem small in absolute numbers, but it becomes significant when talking about hundreds or thousands of tons transported each year. Even more so in warm climates or long distances, where waste is greater and KeepCool's solution reaches its full potential.

A collaboration with impact

What started as a technical analysis has evolved into a strategic partnership. Both companies share a common vision: accelerating the transition toward a more sustainable and circular economy, where waste is minimized and decisions are guided by data.

KeepCool has shown that innovation in logistics can be simple, effective, and scalable. And at Devera, we've shown that it's possible to measure that impact with rigor, transparency, and speed.

About KeepCool

KeepCool has developed a passive technology that keeps produce fresh without the need for active refrigeration. Made in Spain, its system integrates into reusable boxes to reduce losses in fruit and vegetable transport, thereby lowering the environmental impact of food logistics.
